Chopping Boards

The humble chopping board is an essential piece of equipment in every kitchen, in the home and in restaurants. Chopping boards not only protect your kitchen surfaces from staining and knife marks but they help you to prepare ingredients quickly and hygienically. Chopping Board Colour Chart

A simple colour coding system helps you to avoid cross contamination during food preparation when you’re using more than one chopping board. But do you know what the different coloured boards are for? Here’s the (unofficial) answer:

Red: Raw meat
Blue: Raw fish
Yellow: Cooked meat
Green: Salad
Brown: Vegetables
White: Bread and dairy

Of course, you can use whatever colour you want for each type of food – just create your own system and stick to that. Just remember to let other people using your boards what your chosen system is.
